With everything on your mind, how do you make your wedding celebration more sustainable? One simple step: Pause to make thoughtful choices, and you will recognize how multiple eco-friendly options add up to minimize the environmental impact of your celebration.

It is important to recognize your limits and prioritize what sustainable practices to focus on. Zero-waste weddings are challenging, so don’t feel guilty! Do your best to reduce waste, ethically and sustainably source purchases, and work with vendors and venue who share your commitment to sustainability by providing eco-friendly practices. The resulting gratification of small decisions will add up to a larger impact for our environment.

Ways to Reduce Environmental Impact

Local Floral · We are fortunate to have many local and talented florists in the La Crosse region who incorporate local floral and woody ornamentals from local gardens and farmers. Ask for locally sourced or seasonal floral arrangements to minimize transportation impacts.

Skip the Swag · Trade-out low-value wedding favors for thoughtful gifts instead. An entire industry is devoted to convincing couples to purchase cheaply produced, low-value party favors. Most favors don’t make it home or are quickly thrown away. Instead of cozies, flip-flops, or key chains, opt for natural gifts such as succulents, seed packets, or locally produced goods. Smartly packaged gift jars, chocolate truffles, or local artwork add a personal touch.

Reusable over Disposable · Remove single-use disposables from the picture. Compostables are one notch better, but it’s best to choose reusable servingware. Take advantage of catering and rental services that provide drinkware, plates, and real silverware. A great meal always takes better served on real plates and real flatware! Request a classy bar service that utilizes real tumblers, wine glasses, and mule mugs. Ask your venue to recycle bottles and cans from the bar.

Use Eco-Calculators to Check your Impact · A great Aussie eco-impact calculator comes from LessStuffMoreMeaning.org. This site allows couples to gage their environmental impact by entering travel & accommodation, Couple and Wedding Party Apparel, Catering, Decorations, Event Venue, and Waste.

Finally, ask for help to brainstorm alternatives with friends, wedding planner, and vendors. Many alternative solutions are available to create a more eco-friendly and sustainable wedding. Best wishes on your wedding planning journey in the La Crosse region. Allow our rich network of wedding professionals assist you on this journey and enjoy a wonderful celebration!
